Really busy day today!

Just woke up....thinking about everything that needs to be done today, like working on deadlines. So, do the dye pots I go! And I am working on more Crowullens for Pfatt Marketplace, due today! Eeeek! Mom gave me some clothes she can no longer wear, supposed to put them on Ebay, but a couple of the pieces really need altering. When I get a chance to alter them, will post photos. That is my first love - altering clothes and making wearable art. When I lived in the big city, I taught at a local shop and loved it!!!! I guess I need to post pics of some of my wearable art pieces I have made, even won 1st place at a quilt show a coupla years ago! That really made me happy.
To the dye pots I go!!!!!

It's that time of the year again!!! Yes, I know - you will get sick of reading about it - but it really is time for spooky fun!
With that said - I thought it would be fun to have a give-away. So how about a crow from my Crowullens collection. Yes - it's true - the Crowullens Clan is growing and seem out of control. I can't help myself - I love crows!!!!!
To participate, become a follower and I will put your name in the hat. At the end - September 1st, midnight is the deadline - I will have my beloved beagle - Lacey Jane - choose with her very own nose and paw the winner! Doesn't that sound like fun! Sure will be for Lacey Jane! tehe......
I will post the winner here in the blog.
So without further cawing - here is the pic -

Carlisle Crowullen!!!
Isn't he a fun crow! He sports a hand dyed wool vest that laces in the front and has wonderful vintage plastic ball buttons. He also has on a silk scarf and of course the Crowullen Crest pinned in with his little flower. Carlisle himself is made of muslin, painted and distressed. His stand is a glass candleholder that is painted and dusted with mica. And the pattern came from Soft In The Head!
Good Luck and Stay Well!

Halloween is almost here and I am so excited!!! This is my favorite time of the year and I get to bring out all my creepy creations (well maybe not so scary, but definitely Halloweenish!)
Be sure to stop over at the Pfatt MarketPlace on the 10th of this month(http://www.pfattmarketplace.com/) for my latest in Halloween musings.

Since The Twilight Saga is so in front right now (New Moon will be released 11-2o-09 http://www.newmoonmovie.com/), I created The Crowluns. They all have their family crest and really are a disparate bunch.

Here is one pic:

Meet Esme Crowlun - named Mother Esme Crowlun by her clan because of her sweet disposition and loving attitude. Notice her family crest is pinned to her hat!

I want to make more Crowluns - so I am thinking there will more midnight oil burning really soon!

Also - the newest issue of Create and Decorate will be released very soon. I have two projects in this issue and both are simple ones to tickle your Halloween fancies.

This rug is called "Something Spooky"

Isn't this just the coolest rug!!!!

Hannah and Her Spooky Chicken is the other project:

and here is the website for the magazine

http://www.createanddecorate.com/

Well, here it is 3:21 am and maybe thinking I am tired. Stay tuned for more hauntings!!!

Create and Decorate

I have two projects for this issue!!! Check out my latest.

Thursday, June 18, 2009

Added the wrong pic!!! Sorry

so here is the correct picture for the Twilight Journal - duh!

It has been so long!

Since I posted!!! Been working on lots of projects - very hard to multi-task - and I keep forgetting to post here! OK Enough of that!

And here it is the middle of June - hot hot hot - here in Texas- feels like August and September hot. ugh.....

Here is a pic of one of the projects I did for PfattMarketplace. If you have never visited - make plans to do so soon. Lots of awesome artists!

This is Spooky Jennifer -

I have made a hat stand from a vintage handmade cedar (I think) candlestick. I then made a head – completely my own pattern. The head is made of muslin and has been gessoed, painted and sealed. Then a circle of pearls and a circle of some kewl trim is perched on her head. Put some tulle around her neck. What a fun hatstand. I already have made several for myself!

And then of course there is Twilight!!!! I am completely besotted. I will be working on more items - really fun....

So – I made this journal especially for all you Twilight fans out there. It measures 5” x 7” – just big enough for your purse but not too big!
I covered the journal front and back with blue(Edward’s favorite color) handmade papers, trimmed in antique black lace. The front cover features an antique black & silver trim running thru the center of cover – representing the single cord that binds Edward and Bella. Added some fabulous black German Dresden trims and some of my favorite photos of the pair.
The back cover is simple and expressive. This is the time Edward and Bella were in Italy and represented by an Italian quote that means ‘my singer’ as explained by Edward that Bella’s blood sings for him. How romantic is that?

Other news - I have not finished my doll that I was making in the online class I took. I hope to pick her up again this weekend, finish her and post her here on the blog, so stay tuned!

and finally - here is a pic of my cute little Witchy Doxie!

Can you resist those eyes???
Ok guys - more tomorrow -
Stay well

April 21st - San Jacinto Day in Texas

Today - Santa Ana (a great Mexican general) was defeated by Sam Houston. A monument called the San Jacinto Monument was built in that days honor that helped Texas gain independence from Mexico. So enough of the history lesson.
Today I am working on my doll class I am taking from K. Etsvold on www.joggles.com and also working on a doll for Danita (that wonderful artist featured on the cover Somerset Studio!). She and I and some members of PFATT are doing a Favorite Swap swap. I drew Danita's name and started cutting it out last nite. Today I am gonna start sewing. Will post pics as I go along.....
Off to the sewing machine!
Stay Well

Spring is here! I think....

OK - we just had Easter weekend. The pecan trees are starting to bud out and so I think maybe Spring is really here. It is about 65 degrees and the sun is out. All the birds and critters are out doing their thing. My dogs (all five of them) are on the deck sunning.

I wanted to show my latest doll and the class I am taking from Katie Etsvold at Joggles.com.

As you can see in the pic - that is what I am supposed to be making and she should look a little like the one pictured.

Well - I have made the theatre, the bird's swing and started on her body. Will take a pic when finished.

Here is a pic of my latest doll - and she has already sold in Pfatt Marketplace.

Her name is Hannah and has her own doll stand. She sold right away, so I am encouraged to continue making these great little girls.
Mark your calendars for May 10th. the day the new Pfatt Marketplace debuts with the latest and greatest from a bunch of very talented artists!
Well - it is late afternoon here and my girls want to be fed! Tomorrow I have to mail out Hannah and some other orders and work on my doll for class.
Talk to you soon!!!!!
Stay well

Dollies

OK

I am still playing around with my dollies and I think I finally worked out a sweet one that I really like and have already sold!

here is her pic!

I named her Sarah. She is only about 8" tall and dressed in her night clothes. I made a stand for her from a 1" wooden block and a 3/16" wooden dowel. And I painted it black and then as I was sealing it, I added bits of lace. Looks really kewl.

So here is the technique:

make doll

Paint on 3 coats of Gesso, sanding in between coats.

Paint on 2 coats of a flesh color (your choice), sanding in between coats.

Add features and any other details you wish.

Spray with a Matte spray to seal.

Paint on 1 coat DecoArt Crackle in a medium consistancy. In other words not too light but not a really heavy coat.

Let dry 2-4 hrs. Then rub on a coat of Folk Art Antiquing Polish. The crackle will appear immediately.

This is what I was looking for - a one step crackle.

Easy technique......Try it!

Dolls

Today I am pondering about dolls. Dolls to me are a personal choice for everyone. One sees a doll that is to them is ugly and another person loves it. So there ya go. I am working on a doll right now, and came up against a staining problem. I am still experimenting and when I work it out, will share my technique with you.
Another thing I want to talk about is a great paper and multi-media artist named Katie Esvold. She has been published lots of times and is now offering classes on-line! To see the class I will be taking go to http://www.joggles.com and then select classes. This is exciting and I can't wait! Taking this class will be very instructional and lots of new techniques! I warn you it is a doll and paper art. And...
I will post a pic of my dolly, good or bad. tehe
Well, that is all for now, am sure more things will pop to talk about.
Stay safe:

Current Projects

I just finished this wonderful witch stocking! It was a special order for a favorite customer, she was extremely pleased and ordered another witch! If you would like your very own witch stocking here are the details.
The stocking is about 22" tall, completely handpainted. There is a sculpted witch head sewn to the stocking, including her hat. Inside the stocking could be a crow, tiny witch, candy canes, or any number of Halloweeny items. Each stocking is different, no two are alike. The cost is approximately $40.00 plus shipping. Please email me for more details and to order!

I have begun a series of "witch on a stick", so cute and very Halloween! She is about 18" tall, her head is sculpted, painted and stained. Hair and hat makes her look just like a witch and an occasional wart also helps. I added trinkets, like a feather, skull beads and some wonderful yarn to complete the look. I have more pictures available - just email me. Cost is $32.00 plus shipping. There are no two alike - I am working on another one and will post her pic when finished.

So you see I am busy - please let me know what you think about my witchy items!

It is almost over!!!

Yippee!!!! OK - for the last few months have been heavily involved in preparing for a lawsuit for my boss. Today they went to court for their depositions and they caught her perjuring herself 16 times!!! They counted - 16 times!
So they adjorned and will continue later, but it looks really good for our side, thank God I am so meticulous about my bookkeeping.
We are leaving now for a fancy restaurant - I am so happy for him, and that I am getting a margarita!
